詩の解説
第２連４行目「私の魂のためにご自身の血を流された」と、第３連２、３行目「私の罪は、一部ではなく、そのすべてが、／十字架にクギ打たれ、もう私には罪はないのだ」について説明しておきます。
キリスト教を支える一番重要な思想は、キリストが人類を救うために十字架にかけられたということです。
キリストは神の子ですから、本来なんの罪もありません。
ではどうして十字架にかけられたのか。
その十字架の意味を次のように理解します。
すなわちキリストは、罪に苦しむ人たちのために、その罪を自分がすべて一身に背負って、人類の身代わりとして処刑されたのだと。
ですから、そのキリストを神の子として信じるかぎり、その人にもう罪はありません。
キリストがすべての罪を引き受けてくれたからです。
アダムとイブが原罪を犯してエデンから追放されて以降、人類はその罪を遺伝子として受け継いできました。
そしてその罪のために本能的に神から目を背け、悪いことを行い続けてきました。
その人類を憐れんで、キリストが人間の形を取って地上に降り立ち、人類に福音、すなわち罪からの救いの道を説きました。
罪人はキリストを信じることで、その罪を許され、清らかな魂を得ることができました。
しかし人類の歴史はこれからもずっと続きます。
どうしたらその人類をすべて救えるのでしょう。
その答えが十字架です。
キリストは、十字架にかかることで、全人類の身代わりとして、全人類の罪を背負って、人類に救いの道をもたらしたのです。
もちろんキリストを神の子として認めない人は、その罪を背負ったまま悪いことをして罪を犯し続け、救われることはありません。
その報いは永遠の地獄です。
歴史の終わりに最後の審判が訪れたとき、心を改めなかった罪人は炎の池に投げ込まれて未来永劫、炎に焼き続けられる運命に置かれます。
しかしキリストを信じた者は神の国へ入り、永遠の平和と安らぎを得ることができます。
韻律の分析
「弱・強」のリズムに「弱・弱・強」のリズムが混ざります。
１連は４行で構成され、詩脚数は４－３－４－３、脚韻は２行目と４行目にあります。
その脚韻はどの連でも必ずsoulという語が入り、/oul/という脚韻になっています。
